About the Larivière Project
The Story
The Larivière Project is a space to hold all my art ramblings. Throughout my life I’ve never had just one space for my art to reside. I find it in pockets throughout my house, my life, my heart and mind. I want just one place to gather it all together and take a look at the long journey my art has taken. To assess where I am today and where I want to go tomorrow. Artistic expression is not stagnant, it’s always moving, growing, changing so having one place to put it all feels significant to me.

This is my take on art. It’s a way to freeze a thought, an experience, a moment, an emotion, a dream, an idea. As such it holds things both transitory and permanent. This is, in my experience, what makes art transcendent… it’s unique ability to be a receptacle for a million different things. It is everything and nothing, all at the same time.
I have evolved over time into a mixed media artist. I began my journey into art with oils, watercolor, charcoal, acrylics, 2B pencils and all things classified as “fine” art. Then I traveled deep into the captured moment with photography (and I still reside there part time). And all along the way paper and pen have been my muse consistently. But what I’ve found over the course of time is that no one medium can say everything. The itch to mix them all together was too great, and it finds me here.
As a side note, Larivière is my father’s family name. French (Larivière) is a habitational name derived from various places in France named Larivière or La Rivière. The name originates from Old French riviere, meaning ‘river shore’. This indicates a connection to geographical features and places closely associated with rivers. My father’s family was originally from Québec and from my earliest childhood I’ve held an affinity for this name. Hence the Larivière Project.
